Seven years ago, worldSALON was invited to participate in an “eco fashion show” put on by “Fashion Takes Action” – “CANADA’S ONLY NON-PROFIT FASHION INDUSTRY ORGANIZATION FOCUSED ON SUSTAINABILITY. WE WORK WITH INDUSTRY AND CONSUMERS, WITH THE GOAL TO SHIFT BEHAVIOUR TOWARD MORE POSITIVE SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS”.
Since we were working with clothing designers with a big focus on sustainability, I tasked the team with developing a technique that required no blowdryers, flat irons, curling irons or other electrical devices. The models arrived with clean, dry hair and we set the hair with our healthy WORLD Hair and Skin product line, particularly UP hairspray and OCEAN salt texturizing spray. Sets are designed as close to the scalp as possible and by the time models are finished with makeup, the heat from the head has given us enough texture to start creating some supercool looks. We have perfected this technique over the years and in June 2016, for the “Design Forward” Show, sponsored by H&M and held at the ArtScape Sandbox in Toronto, we received some major props for our “noelectricityhair”.

It makes me really happy to see how excited people get when I tell them that there was not a plug in sight backstage and that only non-toxic products were used. Previously, I would get a massive, toxic, hair product hangover after working on fashion shows, but with WORLD Hair and Skin and our simple techniques, I am now fresh as a rose and ready for cocktails.
